TWD Chocolate Banded Torte

Since our dads birthday fell on this recipe week.................we made it for him! He chose vanilla ice cream to go with that extremely chocolaty ganache.

Our voting on this recipe was less liked then many of the other TWD recipes..............weird because we all love chocolate!
Maybe if we had a different ice cream, we would have liked it better? Also the amount the recipe serves, was WAY TOO MUCH! Yikes way to much ganache for me!

We did encounter a few "problems" with our torte as well. The layers were very hard to cut (we did use a hot knife) and our layers were uneven. Most likely why our layers were uneven is our own fault, in not letting them freeze as long as they needed. But we were in a hurry since we had been gone all day:-)

We have already tried the PB Oatmeal cookies....................very good!

Till next time!

That looks delicious and waaaay better than mine. I could hardly cut through. Sorry it wasn't your fave but there is always another one around the corner.

Your black and white picture is sooo cool looking! I tried cutting mine when it was too soft, so that was sort of a disaster. I've only tasted a tiny bit but it seems yummy.

I measured out the chocolate ganache, about 10 oz per layer, and that kept it even.

Your torte looks really pretty though. Glad you had a celebration to share this cake, it makes a lot!

I love the black and white photography. Sorry the torte wasn't your favourite but you did a great job anyway.

Your torte looks good - too bad you weren't as nuts about it as you've been about other TWD things, but ah well, that's how it goes. Good job anyway!

Your torte looks great! I also didn't like the torte as much as I thought I would... Don't know why...

I totally agree - the ganache was way too chocolatey, and my layers were uneven also. Oh well, at least it looks pretty! :-)

I think yours looks wonderful (your photography is fabulous). Personally, I think that uneven layers adds character (that's what I keep telling myself, anyway!) I agree that the ganache was extremely rich -- bordering on too rich, even if you like chocolate. Hope your dad had a good birthday!

With the mild vanilla the ganache simply washes out the flavor. Try it with a different ice cream and I bet you change your mind. Looks good.

Love the cool b/w photo!

It sure looks nice! I think it's better with a more interesting ice cream, and maybe something crunchy mixed in.

Too much chocolate ganache? Is that even possible?

I was sure you girls were going to use coffee ice cream with your cake. (You've seemed to develop a coffee addiction at a very early age...) Vanilla is a classic :-) I hope your dad enjoyed this on his bday!

Yum!! From that picture, your layers look really good! I was so impatient with letting mine freeze. I needed the ice cream cake as fast as possible, ha!

I thought the ganache made the dessert, but I could see how vanilla ice cream might not stand up to it. Clearly more research is necessary with coffee ice cream!

Too bad you didn't enjoy it...you should come try my mint chocolate one before you make a final judgment on it...everyone over here enjoyed it!

We have made the cookies already too...imagine that having the next recipe done before you even post the current one!
